  • Wednesday, August 7th- Disability Rights Maine- Deaf Services
  • Most people use the phone to make appointments, connect with family, and/or call emergency services. But what if it wasn't as simple as picking up a telephone? There are resources available in Maine to help make using the telephone easier.
  • The Telecommunications Equipment Program (called TEP) was established by state law to provide ‘no’ or ‘low’ cost adaptive telecommunications equipment to any Maine resident who cannot use their home’s conventional telephone due to a physical or cognitive disability. The program was established to assist low-income residents, and most clients pay nothing for the phone equipment they need.
  • Maine Relay Services is a free service which allows those with hearing, vision and/or speech disabilities to access telecommunications services. The service allows text-telephone (TTY) or special equipment users (such as captioned telephone, TTY, VCO or HCO) to communicate with standard voice telephone users through specially trained relay operators (captioners).
  • Debra Bare-Rogers will be presenting. She will share how she uses Maine Relay and her experience as a woman with adult on-set hearing loss. Additional hearing loss resources will be shared at this informative presentation.Join us to learn more about these services. We look forward to meeting you!
